I agree, what I ended up doing was running the emitter along the silver base and then aiming it up to the IR port. You can't see the emitter and it works like a charm. I had it stuck originally, but it kept falling off. I have never used the RS232, thought about it, I just haven't done it. Mainly because I am very unfamiliar with it and which cable to actually get. Best of luck! But yes the IR does work, at least for me!
Trying to visualize: could you share a photo of 'the emitter along the silver base and then aiming it up to the IR port' ?

Sure when I get home tonight I will take a picture for you and post it.

If you are familiar with the Samsung TV, it comes with a silver base (See attached picture) I ran my IR along the side of the silver base (red) and have it facing up to the (yellow) because that is where the IR receiver is located on this particular TV.

I will post my setup when I get home and take a picture, but wanted to show you now as a reference. When looking at the TV, you don't see the wire unless you are looking for it.

I did have it taped with electrical taped over the IR receiver on the TV but it kept falling off and the one time it did fall off, I was still able to use it even though it wasn't right over the receiver. So I placed it below out of view and I haven't had any issues.

The UN82MU8000 has a different pedestal:

I'll probably use some clip to snap the emitter to the bottom edge, if I stick to IR. RS232 has its quirks.

Oh... Yeah I don't think it work on this one. If you can figure out how to get it to stick without falling off, let me know. I had the tape that was on the IR emitter along with electrical tape over that and I could not get it to stay on. Thankfully it fell the way it did so that I didn't have to tape it to that location.

Is the IR receiver in the same location as mine? You might try a blaster and have it in another location? That was going to be my next step before I found the above trick.

... I didn't have any success, gave up and I am now using RS232.
I'm going the RS232 route as well. Could you share your Samsung model & year and the RS232 commands?
