Apple TV Trackpad swipe function

So, has anyone managed to replicate the function of the Apple TV remote trackpad?
My take on it is that the trackpad has two addressable functions for each direction - press or swipe
MOST (if not all) apps work whereby the press or swipe perform the same action.
However this is not the case for all apps.
Unfortunately the Apple TV 'learn remote' function doesn't allow you to split up the press or swipe function.
Has anyone been able to replicate the swipe?
I wondering if it might be a long press?
