iPad and RS232 Serial Cable

I may have messed up purchasing hardware.
I purchased:
• Current gen iPad Mini
• Redpark Powered Serial Port cable (L4-DB9PV)
• A-Neuvideo HD-88G HDMI Matrix Switch
• DemoPad
My intention was to use the iPad with DemoPad to select HDMI input and output combinations.
I have everything connected and it doesn't look like this cable will work with DemoPad without some sort of application in-between.
If this cable won’t work with DemoPad, what device should I be using between the iPad and the HDMI switch for DemoPad to be able to provide this function?
