Given DemoPad is IP based, the easiest option for interfacing with Insteon is via the Insteon hub (IP based).

Look at http://www.smarthome.com/2242-222/INSTEON-Hub/p.aspx for details. The suffix 222 is for North America, but other models are available:
2242-222 (US)
2242-422 (EU)
2242-442 (UK)
2242-522 (AUS/NZ)

Don't pay attention to controlling via smartphone or tablet. The Insteon hub replaces the PLM.

What software if any are you currently using to control your Insteon devices? I can provide further assistance once you answer that.

A bit of warning though: you will need to get down to a certain level of technical detail to send commands from DemoPad to Insteon; you will need to be familiar with the Insteon command structure in order to construct the appropriate DemoPad commands to send. Documentation is available to assist you and I can supply samples from my installation.

I'll respectfully disagree with the previous post. From what I know of the Insteon Hub, a superior solution to IP communication with Insteon devices are the controllers offered by Universal Devices.

Smarthome sells several of them, for example: http://www.smarthome.com/12237DB/ISY994 ... PLM/p.aspx

Each model of ISY controller provides a REST interface providing complete control over connected Insteon devices. It's a simple matter to use Demopad to fire commands (essentially TCP GETs) to the ISY which then executes the native Insteon command over the power line. Response is effectively instantaneous. Latency is not an issue.

If you are not familiar with REST there is an excellent primer on the Universal Devices site: http://wiki.universal-devices.com/index ... _Interface

ISY controllers have many capabilities beyond the REST interface but they are beyond the scope of your question. I'll just say I've used an ISY controller for nearly 4 years for a large home Insteon installation and it has been flawless. In addition to driving my media equipment, Demopad severs as a graphical, tablet-based interface to my home automation thru the ISY. Highly recommended.
