IR Questions for DemoPad

Post by DKAudio » Tue Jan 08, 2013 3:01 pm

I've been messing with Demopad for a few days now, plan to put it on my 32gb iPad Mini. Creating the screens and graphics is coming fairly easy to me.
I have the following equipment:
Emotiva UMC-1 processor (fortunataly Emo publishes remote codes so I think I'm ok on these)
Lutron Maestro IR Dimming Light Switch (believe I have the correct IR codes from remotecentral)
PS3 using a Nyko BluWave USB IR dongle (no idea how to get IR codes)
LG TV 50PA5500 (no idea how to get IR codes)
Dish Network PVR ViP722k (no idea how to get IR codes)
Insten iPod dock DAPPiPODCRA9 (no idea how to get IR codes)

How do I get codes for the above equipment? I read about Pronto Edit and downloaded the software but have no idea how to continue and searching did not help.
When do you and when do you not push Hex Convert button in Demopad?

I ordered a WF2IR unit but it has not come yet. I plan on putting it on a shelf, I could probably hit all my rack equipment with one IR blaster but the Lutron switch is on the opposite side of the room. Could I order a TIVO 2 IR blaster cord and have one pointing in each direction since the WF2IR only has one IR Blaster port?

Thanks for any help!

When the WiFi2IR unit arrives, it comes with an IR learner built in, so you can capture the IR commands from your original remotes. If you cannot find them online via the likes of Remote Central or get quality captured codes via the iTach, you can go directly to the manufacturer and obtain them from them, most I have dealt with have been extremely obliging.

Great thanks, I thought the IR learner was another seperate add on. I will also try emailing the companies. I found some codes for the dish 622 receiver (which I am told are the same as the 722) but the file is a .pcf Anyone know what that is and how I'd convert to something I can use?

Well, this is what I received from LG. They are just two digit hex numbers, that can't be right, is it?

As mentioned by another poster, you may want to manually learn the IR codes with your iTach. It's a tedious task, but the easiest way to bring Hex codes into DemoPad.

Importing hex codes into DemoPad is not trivial. You can refer to this post [http://www.demopad.com/forum/viewtopic. ... =201#p2224] and I can help if you have specific questions.

Most Hex codes are said to be Pronto Hex codes. Pronto was an IR LCD remote done by Philips; they developed the (Pronto) Hex code protocol. A '.pcf' file is the container for design and Pronto Hex codes used by the Pronto PC software.

You're right, these aren't Pronto Hex codes per say. Could be Funtion codes; if so, you would also need the device code for the LG. There are utilities that take these 2 parameters, Function and Device codes, and convert them into Pronto Hex codes that can be input to DemoPad.

I had a quick peek at the section in the manual "EXTERNAL CONTROL DEVICE SETUP" and it wasn't clear to me what protocol they were describing.

But even simpler, you could ask LG if they can provide the Pronto Hex codes for your TV.

If you have not found out how to get the HEX codes supplied into a full HEX code, it would be good if you can try the following site to make your own code.

http://www.hifi-remote.com/jp1/yamaha.html

If you can type in 04fb 08f7 to generate the code, then convert the given Pronto Hex inside Demopad for trial, I can supply all your codes from there, if this "HEX Code Generator" works.

Really I just need to have this tested on an LG, I don't have one on hand but are installing one in a day so putting it out there if anyone wants to give this a try, plus my designer keeps crashing when I try to convert full code

Here is the full Pronto Hex for discrete On as supplied via an LG site, I cannot convert this command as my Designer keeps crashing, so if you or someone could try these out, if they work I'll post the whole set for someone to convert.

Even if this Discrete Off could be tried by someone would be great, if it works I'll do a full list and post them.....

I'm still working on the programming and I ended up just learning the commands from my original remotes, it was pretty simple. The ilearn software from Global Cache makes it pretty easy.
I will try the descrete on and off and let you know if it works on my TV, it would be much better than having to use flags with a power toggle button.

Do let us know if they work, just make sure when adding the above codes, you make them a continuous line in Demopad, like the following.......when I cut and pasted from the PDF I have, they are not clean codes and do need to be cleaned up.

Yup, just tried the descrete on and offs and it worked great. I have all the other codes learned now but I did not have descrete power which will make programming activities easier, thanks!

I am completly new to demopad, just logged in and am downloading software but I've been messing with IR codes in Phillips Pronto stuff for years. I have an LG 55LE550 and was able to find undocumented IR codes.
Try this but be carefull. Some were not ment for normal users.

The codes above are not in Pronto Raw (0000) format, so you'll need to convert them first before being able to use with Global Cache / Keene IR units etc. There is a tool called IRCodeDoctor which does this..

Oh.. right.
Its actually Short codes that my old pronto converts some things to. I dont quite understand it but think its an NEC code and called RC5. Not sure how to convert it to raw pronto. I have a few codes in here i'd like to use and cant. Also cant seem to learn them from my pronto.
Any ideas?
