I love the Fire TV as it integrates all my streaming entertainment sources into one neat package, has great video resolution and has been solid as a rock since I bought it. The one downer I had was it could not be controlled by Demopad and despite repeated requests Amazon has not released their IP protocol. I have now found a solution and can control the Fire TV from Demopad..
To accomplish this you need a TV with HDMI-CEC, I use a Samsung.
Seems the Fire TV has HDMI-CEC cababilities even though they don't claim it is compliant. I have always found HDMI-CEC to be hit and miss so never use it, but I read an article where someone was using their TV remote to control the Fire TV.
Switched on the Samsung's Anynet (CEC) feature and sure enough the D-Pad, play, pause rewind etc all work. Even though I am passing the Fire TV signal though an HDMI switch and receiver ( with CEC turned off) it still shows up as an input on the TV.
Created a new Fire Tv page in Demopad with the TV remote keys mapped and now control the Fire TV through Demopad.
