It is possible to control Z-Wave equipment with Demopad, but it is dependent on th Z-Wave controller you are using. The ISY994i( https://www.universal-devices.com/resid ... 4i-series/ ) can be controlled by Demopad and has a Z-Wave module.

I use the ISY994i with Demopad to control Insteon lights and tie together several systems and maintain status between them. Do not have any Z-Wave equipment yet, but do use Demopad & the ISY to control Zigbee bulbs using the Hue hub.

Also many of the new hub systems that are comming to market are Z-Wave and have documented Rest interfaces that can be used with Demopad.

It's actually quite easy to control zwave devices from demopad, at least it is with my Vera controller. You can use HTTP commands to directly control devices status and level and can initiate scenes etc. The simplest way is just to find the http command of the thing you want to do and then use that as a command in demopad.

There is no way to control z-wave directly from Demopad, you will need a 3rd party Z-Wave gateway of some kind.
