Simple audio player

Can anyone suggest a simple audio player as an alternative to the I tunes module, that will work in app, preferably with some storage via a USB drive? The simpler the better.
To answer my own post, and for the benefit of the 3139 viewers of the original post, I came across this useful little DAC that can play up to 24 bit 192KHZ audio when connected to a Raspberry PI.

I've placed an order for one to try out. Lots of interesting reading on the internet with various suggestions on how to get the best out of it and how to control it.
